Carnival Time

We are right in the heart of summer here in New Jersey and that means it is fair and carnival time. So it's the perfect time for the  Carnival theme at SweetSassyDiva. I couldn't come up with any other way to use this theme except a layout. That's right, here is my second one! My daughters are convinced they will turn me into a scrapbooker yet!

As I am writing this post, spell check tells me I have misspelled the title, so I will be going back and fixing that.... duh....

I started by laying out all my pieces on my Gypsy. I put them on three separate layers.

The tent is from Create a Critter and is cut at 2.75 inches. I put the layer on twice and then hide all the cuts but the door so I could have that a different color.

The lion is from Create a Critter and is cut at 1.75 inches  I also cut out the word Time on this layer and that is 1.20 inches from Art Philosophy.

The banner is from Art Philosophy and is cut at 1.25 inches. I placed the letters in the triangles and sized each one separately. They are approximately .75 inches.

For the photo mats I used the ticket punch from Stampin Up and black gel pen stitching.
I inked the edges of all the pieces of the tent and stitched in white gel pen. The lion I left alone. For the border I used the Fiskars Scallop border punch and stitched in white gel pen.

I threaded some thin ribbon through the banner and attached with pop dots.

Please stop in everyday and check out all the creative ideas for our Carnival week!

Christmas....

in July!! Yup, Christmas ideas are popping up all over blog land! All the design team gals at SweetSassyDiva  are giving you some great Christmas stuff to start on now or store away for later.

My project comes from the late Katie Renz. She was on on the design team for Clearly iStamp. Sadly, Katie passed away in November of 2011. The original directions for the box I made can be found here. This is the 2nd time I have made this box, and I know I am going to making these for special gifts this year.

It goes together very easily... the hardest part of this project is picking out the papers and figuring how to decorate the tags ! So here we go...

After making the box, I laid out the tags on my Gypsy. They are from George and Basic Shapes.

I cut 4 tags, 2 from each design at 4.25" on Shadow Blackout. These are for the outside ends.

The rest of the tags are cut at 3.75", layer and shadow.

I cut a strip using my Fiskars Border Punch and added a small piece of ribbon.

The stamps, ink and punches are all from Stampin UP.

The hardware and ribbons are from my stash as is the designer papers.

This really was a fun and simple project. I hope you will give it a try !

I am entering this in the Christmas Challenge at DL. Art

As Always, thanks for stopping by  :)

Vacation Time

Hello everyone....I'm sharing this weeks project for the Vacation Time challenge at SweetSassyDiva.

My family is headed out on a 10 day road trip and I wanted to make a journal/scrapbook to have in the car. I wanted it to be simple yet easy to add things. Using the book rings makes this a very friendly book.

I cut the cover from a file folder then covered it with paper. The map is from the Close To My Heart Cruisin' paper pack. The stamps are also from CTMH - Adventure USA set.
Road Trip was cut from Cuttin' Up at 1.25 inches.

I cut up some regular paper and some index cards to write things on and to glue little mementos to. The  beauty of this type of book is you can add as many pages as you need to hold all those great things we will find along the way !

A always, Thanks for stopping by :)

Lazy Days of Summer

Hello, I'm here to share a card I made for this weeks Lazy Days of Summer challenge at SweetSassyDivaMy favorite summer pass time (other than crafting ! ) is reading. It is my big guilty pleasure that I can only really enjoy during my summer vacation. For this card I pushed my limits with the colors and the size. I don't usually pull out bright, bold color combo's and this card is a 5x7 and I am pretty much an A2 size gal.

The image is from Kate's ABC's cut at 3.75 inches. I set up all the layers on my Gypsy.

As usual, I put 2 of each of the smaller cuts on my mat as a precaution ... you never know when something isn't going to cut out just right :)
For the layer that cuts the hat, shoes,  pocket etc, I used the hide contour function to get the pieces in the color I preferred.

The sentiment is computer made then punched out with a 2" punch, backed by a scalloped circle punch. The leaves are from SU bird punch and the butterflies are from a SU Sizzlet.

I hope you are enjoying all the great Lazy Days of Summer projects all the DT shows you this week !

The Big Bang

Hello everyone, I'm sharing a wreath I made for the Big Bang Challenge this week at SweeetSassyDiva.
I found my inspiration here on Pinterest... my newest addiction ! LOL

With the help of my Gypsy, it was a very quick and easy project.

I cut the stars out in 2 sizes - 4 and 5 inches from Plantin Schoolbook in four different papers from Hobby Lobby.
I then dropped the sizes down to 3.9 and 4.9 inches and cut them out again in white card stock. The patterned paper was too thin to use alone.

I cut out a circle background to attach the stars to in white card stock.

The smaller stars were glued down flat to the circle then the larger ones where folded along the score lines and glued on top. I embellished with varies ribbons, buttons, and rhinestones from my 'collection.

I can't believe it, but this is the very first Fourth of July decoration I have ever made!! I have to say that I really am happy with it and hope it doesn't fade too much so I can keep it for next year.

As always, thanks for stopping by :)

National Candy Month

To celebrate National Candy Month, this weeks challenge at SweetSassyDiva is to make anything that involves something sweet.
Well, my youngest daughter has developed quite a passion for cake decorating. She bought the Cricut Cake Mini about a month ago and has been learning how to cut out fondant. When she made this cake for a coworker, I knew I wanted to use it for this challenge.

She started by rolling the fondant out on a pastry mat to a thickness of about 1/8th of an inch and cutting it to a rectangle to fit on the 12" x 6" mat. The speed is low the pressure is low - medium. The hair is from Everyday Paperdolls, the rest of the cowgirl is from Paper Doll Dressup, all layers cut at 4". The cake is a 2 layer, 10" frosted with white butter cream and piped with yellow butter cream. This is only her second attempt using the Cricut, but I see lots more cakes in her ( our ) future!

I was impressed with how easily she found the fondant to work with and the Cricut cut it beautifully. If you have ever thought about trying your hand at this yummy pastime I would say wholeheartedly - Go For It!!
